The Buddha chanted Nam-myoho-renge-kyo for the first time at dawn on April 28, 1253. (We follow the teachings of the Lotus Sutra – the very first sutra that said that women could attain Buddhahood). Nam-myoho-renge-kyo is the title of the sutra in Sanskrit.
I had this great idea in meditation last year that we should all get together and do morning prayers (gongyo) to the dawn on Tuesday, April 28th – 762 years after the Buddha first chanted. Well, tomorrow we’ll be having our very first “Gongyo at Dawn” here and in Boston tomorrow morning. I will be in to work after that!
I am so excited that this is actually going to happen that I feel like I feel like my heart is about to jump out of my chest, I feel lightheaded and like Iam having an anxiety attack.
If you don’t mind, could you please send prayers for the success of this event?
